Getting My Kicks

2 versions of Route 66 by me. One wind assisted at the Cadillac ranch just before a massive storm hit us. There was a tornado warning for noth of where we were.

The other is all me at a derelict Gas station before Gallup New Mexico heading west of course. Enjoy I did ;0)

It is warm in the desert

Photo of dash driving somewhere in New Mexico. It did go to 98! We have a short range forcast that Las Vegas on Saturday will be 107

Moving through Oklahoma

Seems like a long time ago now but was only a couple of days. Can't get internet access at all hotels but currently sat in WIlliams Arizona updating.

These pics are in Oklahoma. Yes they make stuff big like the coke bottle at a gas station. But as you can see I found a way to handle it.

Trading posts eh?

Selling allsorts of crap once the life blood of the road. Here you can buy teeshirts crazy hats and a series of knives with each of the 8 states you pass through on route 66. (Guess you could kill people with style as you go) It did have this oddball animated farmer though which is quite cool. Next stop Kansas.

Goodbye Illinois Hello Missouri

Crossing the bridge of chains you change states too. The bridge crosses the Missouri river and is only used now by walkers and cyclists.

Doggles and Muriels

Potiac Illinois still going south. This place was great. They are really trying to promote the town with crazy stuff. Lots of murals on the walls and a series of fibre glass dogs on every corner. They raise money by actioning the dogs to pay for the artists to come and paint the wall. A great route 66 museum here manned by passionate people. Worth the visit. We stayed hours and are now well behind. But Hey! we are on holiday.

Launchpad diner

Iconic stop off on route 66. We took phots only as the diner was closed. Cool place to eat though.....Will need to do this next time ;0)

Bates Motel

Heading South from Joliet on the I55 we came across a great little town called Farmersville.
The Motel looked like Bates motel and legend tells that John Dillenger used to stay here on trips between St Louis and Chicago. We loved it for the friendly redneck locals and the cheap beer.

4 fried Chickens and a coke

Joliet is really a very nice town. The housing looks very expensive. However it is famous for Jake and Elwood and their incarceration at the Joliet Prison which closed last year. There are reminders everywhere about the Blues Brothers especially at the ice cream stand and also at the visitors centre where I joined them.

103 floors up The only way is Dowwwwwwnnnnnn!

Yes we went on on the Ledge. 103 floors up at the Willis "Sears" Tower. Quite freaky. Me 4" of glass and a gentle sway of the building. What a great way to see where we had to go next. It was due south along the I 55 to Joliet along route 66.

A couple of cute furry animals...And a hamster and a Doggles

They have some "intense" pet store over here. This one was near the hotel in Chicago. Paul isn't going to lick that glass is he?

St Gordon of Chicago?

Not really a saint. I know thats hard to believe. Arrived safe, very tired and it started raining. This was a good thing as it is so hot. On Franklin bridge they have these life belts. I wanted my head in the middle Paul did a great job getting it their.

This is for Tracy. You go past these at Schipol and turn RIGHT at the top. Your flight will be leaving from one of the gates starting with an E I love you. See you in NY xx
